114-yr-old Marathon runner Fauja Singh dies in road accident in Jalandhar

Jalandhar: Well known marathon runner, Fauja Singh, died in a fatal road accident after being struck by an unidentified vehicle here on Monday.

The tragedy occurred at Fauja's home village of Beas Pind near Jalandhar in the afternoon.
He was aged 114.

As per reports, Singh was struck by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the road at around 3:30 pm. He later succumbed to injuries while being treated at a private hospital.

'Turbaned Tornado' as he was affectionately called is said to have been born on April one, 1911, in Jalandhar.

Fauja gained global repute for having started running in marathons at the age of 89.

He set the record of being the oldest person to complete a full marathon, when he fnished the 2011 Toronto Waterfront Marathon at the age of 100.

He went on to break several age-group records and continued running competitively until the age of 101.
