New Delhi:Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir urged people to strictly follow the government's quarantine guidelines in place, to stop the spread of Novel Coronavirus. The whole India is heading towards a complete lockdown from Monday, to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, many people were seen openly flouting the rules and taking the disease lightly.
"Khud bhee jayenge aur parivaar ko bhee leke jayenge, quarantine or jail (either you go to quarantine with family or you go to jail," posted Gambhir on Twitter.
"Don't be a threat to society. We are fighting for our existence, not for our livelihood. Follow the government's lockdown guidelines," he added.With the global death toll passing 15,000, the Central government has asked the states to strictly enforce lockdown in various cities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also appealed to the countrymen to take the lockdown seriously and protect their families, along with them.
"Many people are still not taking the lockdown seriously. Please save yourself, save your family, follow the instructions seriously. I request the state governments to follow the rules and get the laws done," tweeted Mr Modi on Monday morning.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India reached 536 on wednesday morning, with a total of seven casualties so far, according to the Ministry of Health and Family welfare.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also advised the citizens to stay at home."If you ever dreamed of playing for millions around the world, now is your chance," the Board tweeted.(UNI)
