Potchefstroom: Basking on the all-round performance of spinners pacers and centurion Mahmudul 100 (127), Bangladesh stunned Newzealand in the second semifinal of ICC U-19 World Cup here on Thursday.
Chasing a modest target of 212 Bangladeshi batsmen never looked in trouble as the required run rate was well in control. The team chased the target in 45th over to cement a place in the finals for the first time in ICC U-19 World Cup. Bangladesh will now take on India on Sunday in the final.
Earlier Bangladesh won the toss and put Newzealand into bat. Kiwis never looked comfortable on the slow pitch and lost regular wickets to south Asian spinners, Shoriful added insult to the injury for black caps with 3-45. Late smashing from W Greenall 75*(83) took Newzealand to a
respectable total of 211.
In reply, Bangladesh had a poor start but never got carried away. Mahmudul played a sheet anchor role and ensured an easy win in the end. Here are the highlights of the second semifinal. (WD)
