In an unusual move, tickets for the India vs South Africa Test match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, are being sold on the Zomato app — not on traditional ticketing platforms like Paytm or BookMyShow. The tickets went on sale at 12 PM on Diwali day, surprising fans with both the platform and the pricing.
The ticket prices start at just Rs 60 per day (Rs 300 for all five days) and go up to Rs 250 per day (Rs 1,250 for the full match). What’s grabbing attention online is the fact that the cheapest ticket costs less than a plate of pav bhaji, making it one of the most affordable Test match experiences in recent times.
The five-day Test, to be played from November 14 to 18, will mark the first Test match at Eden Gardens since 2019, when India hosted Bangladesh in the historic pink-ball Test. That match saw Virat Kohli become the first Indian batsman to score a century with the pink ball.
However, this time the iconic venue will witness a new chapter — it will be the first Test at Eden Gardens in nearly 13 years without Virat Kohli, who retired from Test cricket in May this year. Before his retirement, Kohli had also scored a memorable century at this very ground during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Ahead of the high-profile India–South Africa Test, Eden Gardens has been hosting domestic Ranji Trophy matches as pitch preparations continued for the big international fixture.
