IND vs SL: “Not every player in team plays at same tempo”: Jasprit Bumrah on Rishabh Pant

IND vs SL: “Not every player in team plays at same tempo”: Jasprit Bumrah on Rishabh Pant
, Monday, 14 March 2022 (11:48 IST)
Bengaluru: Team India Vice Captain Jasprit Bumrah found no issues with the pitch, despite 30 wickets fell in two days of the second Test against Sri Lanka being played at Chinnaswamy Stadium here.

"Nobody is complaining about the wicket, they know if they score good runs on a tough wicket that will give them confidence, which will hold them in good stead on flat wickets," he told reporters at a virtual press conference at the end of Day 2.

Both batsmen and bowlers play in different conditions and if they do well under trying conditions, they get confidence, Bumrah said.

"You won't get flat wickets everywhere. You always look for a challenge," he added.

Asked whether Rishabh Pant has been given a special task of accelerating the score, Bumrah said he just backed his strength and took on the bowlers whenever there were scoring opportunities on offer.

"See you cannot teach everyone to play in the same manner. Every individual is different and has a different game plan. So, he has backed his strengths. He was trying to take on the opposition wherever he felt that there were scoring opportunities, that is the tempo that he plays. Not every player in the team plays at the same tempo," he said.

"We understand that. More and more he is getting more experienced and he is learning a lot about his game, so that will obviously help him go further as well. So I think that is his plan going forward and he is understanding his game even more. So that is a very positive sign for us," he added.

Pant cracked a record-breaking fastest fifty scored by an Indian, surpassing Kapil Dev's 30-ball fifty against Pakistan in the 1982 Karachi Test. The southpaw smashed the fastest Test fifty in 28 balls.

Besides Pant, Bumrah played a stellar role by bagging his first-ever five wicket haul in India.

On this performance, he said, "It feels good. When you play in all three formats you have to take care of your body and sometimes you miss the home tests. But it's always good, it's the moment when I have the opportunity and to be able to contribute to the success of the team is always a great feeling." (UNI)
