The Purple Cap is a prestigious award given to the leading wicket-taker of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Purple Cap was first awarded in the 2008, and has been won by 13 different bowlers since then.

Let’s take a look at the bowlers who won the Purple Cap at the IPL tournament over the years.

2023 : Mohammed Shami

Gujarat Titans seamer Mohammed Shami bagged Purple Cap in 2023 scalping 28 wickets.

2022 : Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal won the Purple Cap in 2022 for taking 27 wickets for Rajasthan Royals.

2021 : Harshal Patel

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Harshal Patel was the leading wicket-taker in 2021 with 32 wickets. He holds the record for scalping the most wickets in a single season of the IPL.

2020 : Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada was awarded Purple Cap for scalping 30 wickets in 2020 for Delhi Capitals.

2019 : Imran Tahir

Imran Tahir won Purple Cap with 26 wickets for Chennai Super Kings in 2019.

2018 : Andrew Tye

In 2018, Kings XI Punjab bowler Andrew Tye won the award for taking 24 wickets

2017 : Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the leading wicket-taker in 2017 with 26 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad

2016 : Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was awarded Purple Cap for scalping 23 wickets in 2016 for Sunrisers Hyderabad

2015 : Dwayne Bravo

Chennai Super Kings’ Dwayne Bravo bagged Purple Cap in 2015 scalping 26 wickets. 

2014 : Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma won the Purple Cap in 2014 for taking 23 wickets for Chennai Super Kings.
