Sydney: Cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his disappointment over not being part of the trophy presentation ceremony for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, despite being present at the SCG.

Gavaskar, who shares the trophy’s name with Australia great Allan Border, voiced his sentiments in a statement following the series conclusion.

"I certainly would have loved to have been there for the presentation. After all, it is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and it is about Australia and India," Gavaskar remarked.

He added that the outcome of the series, which saw Australia emerge victorious, should not have been a factor in his participation in the presentation. "To me, it should not matter that Australia won when it comes to the presentation. They played better cricket, so they won. That’s fine. Just because I am an Indian [I did not present the trophy]."

Gavaskar emphasised that he would have been honoured to present the trophy alongside Allan Border, a close friend and fellow cricketing icon.

The absence of Gavaskar in the presentation has sparked discussion among cricket enthusiasts, with many questioning the decision-making behind the ceremony arrangements.

Australia clinched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in a gripping series, showcasing some of the finest cricketing moments between the two nations.
