Kolkata: India's fast bowler Mohammed Shami was on Wednesday allowed to rejoin his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Delhi Daredevils following a three-hour interrogation by the Kolkata police.
"We have got no objection in Shami joining his IPL side. We will call him if need be for further interrogation," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Praveen Tripathi told mediapersons here.“We can call him anytime but at this point of time, we don't find it's necessary. He has been cooperative in this case," Mr Tripathi said.Shami was called by the Kolkata police while his team Delhi Daredevils flew to Bengaluru
for their next IPL game on Monday.
Earlier, Shami and his brother Hasib Ahmad on Wednesday deposed before the city police headquarters at Lalbazar in connection with the domestic violence charges brought them by the cricketer estranged wife Hasin Jahan.The duo arrived at Lalbazar around 1400 hours as per scheduled after being summoned by the Women’s Grievance Cell of Kolkata Police as Hasin Jahan filed a complaint with the
Lalbazar last March.
Delhi Daredevils' cricketer Md Shami stayed back in the city after playing against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday following a summons notice. The bowler has been charged with domestic violence by his estranged wife.
Hasin Jahan also on April 10 last filed a petition against her husband in a city court seeking a monthly maintenance cost of Rs 10 lakh for her and her minor daughter.She also filed a case under Domestic Violence Act 2005 against Shami and her family members. The hearing in these cases will be held on May 4.
Those named in the petition under Domestic Violence Act include the cricketer’s mother Anjuman Ara Begum, his brother Mohammad Hasib Ahmad, Hasib’s wife Shama Parveen and Shami’s sister Sabina Anjum.(UNI)
