Bengaluru: With the auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsing suddenly at the Mega IPL auction, the experienced commentator Charu Sharma took over with just a 15-minute briefing session.
"I was briefed about the situation and what had happened to Hugh Edmeades. I said 'fine let's do it. We had a 15-minute session. I inquired about the current status of the proceedings and the remaining. The IPL officials then asked me if the break should be extended. I said 'don't.' I had some fun," he said.
"Put on your clothes and come here. The IPL chairman (Brijesh Patel), who is a good friend, told me on the phone. There is an emergency," the charming commentator informed.
The emergency arose after Hugh Edmeades, who was conducting IPL Auction 2022, suddenly collapsed on the floor from the podium due to postural hypotension while he was engaged in Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga's bidding.
Perhaps the 62-year-old's biggest challenge in his vast 40-year career was awaiting him at the venue, and to take over from midway of an auction is a very critical job, but Charu did a fantastic job, receiving accolades after the end of Day 1 of the mega auction.
He is continuing the auction on day 2 of the mega event. (UNI)
