Mumbai: Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the media to shed light on the exclusion of KL Rahul from India's T20 World Cup squad. Agarkar emphasised the need for players who could handle the middle overs effectively.

"Currently, KL Rahul predominantly opens the innings. Rishabh Pant doesn't open, and we believe Sanju Samson can adjust lower down the order if required. Rishabh typically bats at five for Delhi," Agarkar told reporters in a press coneference.

"Our focus was on specific batting slots and the ability to perform in the latter part of the innings, which we anticipate will be crucial in the World Cup. It's not about who is better; it's about the roles we needed to fill. Both KL and the selected players are exceptional talents," he added.

Meanwhile, Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma expressed uncertainty regarding the final playing XI for the T20 World Cup, citing the variability of pitch conditions, especially in the USA.

"We are playing in the West Indies, but different venues pose different challenges. We need to consider opposition combinations as well. Our top-order batting has been decent, but we require someone to step up in the middle overs," Rohit remarked.

"Shivam Dube showcased this role effectively in the IPL. However, our final XI will be determined by practice sessions and analyzing the opposition," he continued.

Agarkar also highlighted the tough decision of excluding Rinku Singh from the main T20 World Cup squad. "Rinku and Shubman Gill haven't done anything wrong. We needed to ensure we have sufficient options considering the uncertain conditions. While Rinku didn't make the main squad, he remains a part of the reserves," he stated.

He also emphasised the importance of experience in the team, noting players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who have proven themselves in multiple World Cups.

Agarkar reassured fans about Rinku Singh's form in the IPL and reiterated the team's focus on balance and adaptability for the upcoming tournament.
