Cricketer Akash Kumar Choudhary created history on Sunday in first-class cricket by hitting eight consecutive sixes, a feat never achieved before. Representing Meghalaya in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh, Akash became only the third player in first-class cricket history to hit six sixes in a single over, joining legends Ravi Shastri and Garry Sobers. South African Mike Procter also hit six consecutive sixes but across two overs.

The remarkable innings came on the second day of the match in Surat, where Akash struck six consecutive sixes off left-arm spinner Limar Dabi in the 126th over of Meghalaya’s innings. Not stopping there, he went on to hit two more sixes off the next two balls he faced, setting an unprecedented record of eight consecutive sixes in first-class cricket.

Batting at number eight, Akash began cautiously with a dot ball and two singles before launching a breathtaking assault. He reached his half-century in just 11 balls, breaking the record for the fastest fifty (by balls faced) in first-class cricket history.

Previously, Wayne White of Leicestershire held the record with a 12-ball fifty in 2012, while Clive Inman had scored a fifty off 13 balls in 1965. Although Akash took nine minutes to reach the milestone — one minute more than Inman.

The 25-year-old, who made his first-class debut in 2019, has played 30 matches, scoring 503 runs at an average of 14.37. With this explosive knock, Akash has etched his name in the record books and joined an elite list of cricketing greats.
