London: India all-rounder Vijay Shankar on Monday was ruled out of the ongoing World Cup due to a toe injury.
Vijay is likely to be replaced by Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal after ICC’s approval. Mayank made his Test debut against Australia last year but has not played in the ODI format so far.
According to BCCI, Vijay was struck on his left foot by a Jasprit Bumrah yorker during training on June 20 which aggravated later. The injury rules him out of the ongoing World Cup.
Vijay sustained a non displaced fracture of the left big toe, which will require a minimum of three weeks to heal forcing him out of World Cup.
India captain Virat Kohli also informed at the toss during the England game on Sunday that the all-rounder had a toe niggle and the signs weren’t too good.
India have two more matches to play against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on July 2 and July 6 respectively. (UNI)
