Women’s World Cup 2022: Indian women crush Pakistan by 107 runs; Greetings pour in for 'Women in Blue'

New Delhi: India batting great Sachin Tendulkar, Minister of Sports and others poured in praises for Indian women's cricket team after their 107-run victory over Pakistan in their opening match of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup at the Bay Oval here on Sunday.

Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana's 122-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Rajeshwari Gayakwad's four-wicket haul helped India register confident win over Pakistan in their World Cup opener.

Moreover, skipper Mithali Raj equalled the record held by India batting great Tendulkar, playing in six different World Cup tournaments. She also became the first women's cricketer to add this feather to her illustrious career.

Sachin Tendulkar: "Brilliant win for #TeamIndia! The partnership between Sneh & Pooja got us back in the game when we were 114/6. The best thing the two did was to rotate strike smartly and convert 2s into 3s & didn't miss out on putting loose deliveries away. Their mindset helped us win."

The Board of control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah tweeted: "Well done Team India for starting the #CWC22 campaign on a strong note with a big win over Pakistan."

"Congratulations Mithali Raj for becoming the first female cricketer to play 6 ODI World Cups. Immense hard work & dedication to the game have helped her create an impeccable legacy," he added.

"What a spectacular performance by the Indian girls against Pakistan. That was a thrashing, and in grand style. Pooja Vastrakar with a valiant innings, the ever so reliable Sneh Rana's great all-round show & Rajeshwari Gayakwad outstanding with the ball. ChakDe India," Virender Sehwag tweeted.
