Bengaluru: Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao come under fire after a video surfaced showing him swimming in a clean pool, even as the state grapples with a surge in dengue and malaria cases.

The BJP has sharply criticized the ruling Congress party, accusing Rao of being insensitive and out of touch with the public health crisis.

"Tragedy strikes Karnataka as seven people, including children, succumb to dengue and Zika virus outbreaks.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Health Minister is flaunting his swimming skills," BJP Karnataka posted on X.

Rao defended his actions, explaining that swimming and exercise are part of his regular fitness routine. He suggested that BJP leaders might also benefit from incorporating such activities into their lives.

"Swimming not only keeps you healthy but also sharpens your mind, which might help you focus better instead of spreading lies and creating diversions," the Minister responded.

He acknowledged the rise in dengue cases and noted that his first action upon arriving in Mangalore was to review the dengue situation. The video in question was taken at the Mangalore International Swimming Pool.

"We have initiated a campaign to eliminate Aedes mosquito breeding sites. We are visiting homes, checking for water accumulation, and raising awareness among residents," Rao stated.
