The Central government has dismissed as fake a rumour circulating on social media that India had requested the custody of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. The clarification came through a post by PIB Fact Check on X.
According to PIB, several Pakistani propaganda accounts have been sharing a fabricated letter claiming that the Indian government asked Pakistan to hand over Khan as a “political prisoner.” The letter is falsely attributed to a leaked “top-secret” document from India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
PIB Fact Check categorically called the letter “fake” and said the claims are “false, baseless, and part of a disinformation campaign pushed by Pakistan against India.” The agency urged people not to share unverified content and to rely only on official government sources.
It also advised users to report any suspicious documents related to the Government of India to the @PIBFactCheck handle on X, the phone number +91 8799711259, or the email [
