Five third-year nursing students at a Kerala medical college were arrested on charges of physically harassing some of their juniors in the name of ragging. According to the police, the junior students were forced to stand naked with dumbbells hung from their private parts.

The incident took place at Government Nursing College in Kottayam where three first-year students - all from Thiruvananthapuram - filed a formal complaint against five third-year students with the Kottayam Gandhinagar police.

According to the complaint, the students alleged that they were forced to stand naked and were subjected to brutal acts. The dumbbells were reportedly hung from the private parts of the students. The victims were also subjected to injuries using sharp objects, including compasses.

The complaint also alleged that the senior would apply lotion to their wounds, causing more pain. When the victims screamed in agony, the lotion was forcibly smeared into their mouths.

The victims also alleged that the seniors regularly extorted money from them on Sundays to buy alcohol.

As per the junior students, the series of violent acts began in November 2024 and continued for nearly three months. However, the students narrated their ordeal to their families lately. Then, they informed the college authorities, who undertook a preliminary inquiry into the case and informed the police.
