A video showing Muslim women offering Namaz at the historic Shaniwar Wada fort in Pune has triggered a political row, with BJP MP Medha Kulkarni conducting a “purification ceremony” using cow urine and holding a protest against what she called an “outrageous” act.

On October 19, Kulkarni shared the viral video on social media, stating, “Shaniwar Wada will not hold namaz recitation, the Hindu community has awakened!”. She urged supporters to assemble at the iconic fort, asking, “Historical heritage site or non-Hindu prayer site?”

In another post later in the day, Kulkarni described the incident as “extremely outrageous”, emphasizing the fort’s historical significance as a witness to the Maratha Empire’s golden era. She said, “A demonstration was organized on behalf of the entire Hindu community to condemn this incident and demand action against those attempting to disrupt Pune’s social harmony.”

Kulkarni further stressed the importance of unity among Hindus, stating that it is their duty to protect Hindu culture, traditions, and history.

Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane also condemned the act, highlighting the fort’s historical and cultural importance. He remarked, “Shaniwar Wada is a symbol of bravery and holds significance for the Hindu community. If Hindus recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Haji Ali, will it be fine?”
