Laughter is the best medicine. However, for a 53-year-old man, laughter resulted into a medical emergency. A Hyderabad man had to be rushed to hospital as he fell unconscious after laughing uncontrollably while watching a comedy show on the television.
A doctor from Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, has recently shared this incident on his social media platform X( previously Twitter).
“Mr Shyam was drinking tea and watching a popular comedy show on the television with his family in the evening when the incident happened,” his doctor and neurologist at Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad, Dr Sudhir Kumar shared on X.
“Mr Shyam lost control over the teacup and the cup fell off his hand. Soon afterwards, his body leaned to one side, and he fell off the chair on to the ground. He had lost consciousness, and his daughter noticed a few jerky movements of his hands,” Dr Sudhir wrote.
"I listened to the entire history and clinically examined him. He had no history of any medical illness, and he was not on any medications. The diagnosis was clear to me. The diagnosis was: laughter-induced syncope," Dr Sudhir shared.
