Bengaluru: In a bizarre act to denounce caste discrimination, Congress MLA and former minister BZ Zameer Ahmad Khan fed a Dalit seer from his own hand and chewed the same food from his hand.

The incident took place during an event in the city on Sunday.

Recently, Khan had courted controversy for distributing food kits to those who were arrested in connection with last month's Hubballi violence.

The BJP accused him of encouraging rioters, but he denied the allegation by saying that he had been to Mecca on a pilgrimage when the incident took place.

Khan also courted controversy during the hijab hearing in Karnataka High Court when he stated that the head scarf protects women’s beauty from potential rapists.

He had claimed that the hijab’s function as the girls grow up is to keep them behind Purdah so that their beauty is not seen. Hijab is used to conceal their attractiveness, he added.

A criminal case also has been filed against Khan and others including his family members in February for allegedly defrauding, trespassing, and threatening.

According to the FIR, Shahista Nazeen Khanum had a plot in Yelahanka. On August 4, Khan, his brother Jameel Ahmed Khan, and others reportedly tresspassed into their property with bulldozers and guns and warned them not to build anything there.

Tasneem Fathima, Khanum’s sister who has the Special Power of Attorney, had stated that her sister possessed a 5,300-square-foot property in Yelahanka. (UNI)
