A recent incident at the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) in West Bengal's Nadia district has sparked controversy. A senior female professor, dressed as a bride, was seen performing Hindu Bengali wedding rituals with a first-year student in her classroom. The incident came to light after videos went viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism.
The professor has since clarified that the "wedding" was actually a psycho-drama demonstration, part of her applied psychology class. She claimed that the videos were taken for in-house documentation but were "leaked" to show the Psychology Department in a poor light.
The university has taken swift action, ordering a probe into the incident and asking the professor to proceed on leave until the inquiry is concluded. A three-member committee, comprising female faculty members from other departments, will conduct the investigation. The student involved has also been asked not to join classes until the probe is completed.
