Karwar: Karnataka Fisheries Minister Mankal S Vaidya has issued a strong warning against those involved in cow slaughter, stating that strict action would be taken against offenders.

"We have grown up drinking cow’s milk and hold it in great reverence. I have given clear instructions to the police to take firm action against the accused. If they repeat such acts (cow slaughter), though it may be wrong to say this, I will have them stand at a road junction and have them shot," Vaidya told reporters on Monday.

His remarks come in the wake of public outrage over the recent slaughter of a pregnant cow near Honnavar. The minister assured that the administration is taking all necessary steps to prevent such incidents and protect the interests of cattle rearers.

Vaidya also criticised the opposition BJP for targeting the government on the issue, alleging that similar incidents had occurred during its tenure without adequate action.

“The government and the police are taking stringent measures. Neither the Chief Minister nor the Home Minister will shield anyone involved in such activities,” he added.

The minister’s statement has sparked political debate, with opposition parties questioning the government's approach to law and order in the state.
