A video of two women engaging in a heated argument at a Namma Metro station in Bengaluru has gone viral, sparking fresh debate over the Kannada vs. Hindi language issue.
Language Dispute at Ticket Counter
The incident reportedly began when one woman insisted on conversing in Kannada, while the other refused and responded only in Hindi. What started as a disagreement quickly escalated into a loud verbal clash near the ticket counter.
Exchange of Words
In the footage, a woman wearing a black burqa can be heard demanding, “Speak Hindi.” She then makes a sharp remark at the Kannada-speaking woman, saying, “Are you the Chief Minister? Get lost,” followed by another jibe, “Are you Siddaramaiah’s woman?”
Meanwhile, the woman in a saree continues to assert, “Kannada… Kannada,” refusing to switch languages despite the confrontation.

Reactions on Social Media
The video has been widely circulated on social media platforms, with users expressing mixed reactions.
A user said:
"Somewhere in Karnataka: A Hindu lady saying, “Speak in Kannada.” A Muslim lady saying, “Speak in Hindi.” It’ll be interesting to see if the language warriors go to this Muslim lady’s house and make her apologize, like they do to regular Hindi-speaking people in Bengaluru."
Another user commented:
"We don’t care whether someone is Hindu or Muslim every Kannadiga stood with the woman in the sari. It’s not religion that unites us. It’s language Kannada."
Third user wrote:
"Language is meant to connect people, not divide them. Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Bengali—sab apni jagah khoobsurat hain. Respect every tongue, because India’s strength is its diversity."
