Golmaal 5 is set to break away from the franchise’s long-standing formula by removing the romantic angle for Ajay Devgn. In a first for the popular comedy series, the lead character will not have a love interest, marking a significant shift in tone.
Although Priyamani features in the film, she is not paired romantically with Ajay or any other character. This change stands out, as previous installments consistently included a female lead opposite Devgn.
The franchise began with Golmaal: Fun Unlimited starring Rimi Sen, followed by Golmaal Returns and Golmaal 3 featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan. The last film, Golmaal Again, starred Parineeti Chopra as the female lead.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, the fifth installment is being touted as the most ambitious entry in the series. Ajay Devgn returns alongside franchise regulars Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, and Shreyas Talpade, while Sharman Joshi also rejoins the ensemble.
Adding a fresh twist, Akshay Kumar joins the cast in a negative comic role, promising a new dynamic. The film is expected to be larger in scale and push the boundaries of its trademark chaos and humour, moving beyond the usual prank-driven narrative.
The “Golmaal” franchise celebrates two decades this year and has grossed over Rs.600 crore worldwide. Filming for Golmaal 5 is currently underway, with a theatrical release planned for early 2027.
