Rajkumar Rao's ‘Newton’ is out of Oscars' race

Mumabi: In a disappointment for India’s hope at the Oscars, ‘Newton’, which was sent to the Academy Awards as an entry for the Best Foreign Film category, has failed to make it in the initial shortlist of nine films.

According to the official website of the Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday announced that nine features will advance to the next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 90th Academy Awards.The name of ‘Newton’, which features Rajkumar Rao in the lead role, does not figure in the list.The list of nine films was drawn from the 92 films that had been sent in the Best Foreign Language film category.
