The holy day of Dev Uthani Ekadashi, also known as Devutthana Ekadashi or Prabodhini Ekadashi, falls in the Shukla Paksha of Kartik month of Hindu calendar. There’s some confusion this year about the exact date — should the fast be observed on November 1 or November 2?
According to Hindu beliefs, this day marks the time when Lord Vishnu wakes up from his divine sleep (yoga-nidra), which began on Dev Shayani Ekadashi. From this day onward, all auspicious and wedding ceremonies can be performed again.
