6 youth prevented from joining militancy, 7 J-e-M OGWs arrested in Pulwama

Srinagar: Police on Thursday claimed to have busted a militant module by arrested seven Over Ground Workers of Jaish-e-Mohammed in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where six youth were prevented from joining militants ranks.


 
A police spokesperson said that following specific information, police along with security forces arrested seven militant associates linked with proscribed outfit JeM in Awantipora in Pulwama. “The OGWs have been identified as Sajad Ahmad Sheikh, Adil Hussain Sheikh, Mohammad Iqbal Baba, Yasir Amin Dar, Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, Ubaid Ahmad Mir and Adil Rashid Bhat,” he said.
 
He said as per police records, the arrested militant associates were motivating youth to join militant ranks.
 
Besides, he said they were also involved in providing logistics, shelter and other kind of support to JeM militants and helping them in transporting arms/ammunition in Tral and Awantipora areas.
 
“The arrested militant associates were also in touch with Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) based self style militant commanders through different social media platforms,” he said, adding incriminating material has also been recovered from them.
 
He said in this connection case FIR number 51/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Tral and investigation has been initiated.
 
The spokesperson said in multiple raids, police along with 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 180th and 130th battalions of CRPF apprehended six youth, who were planning to join militant ranks. “They have been identified as Aqib Ahmad Dobi, Mufeez Ahmad Zargar, Saifullah Ahmad Shah, Liyaqat Ahmad Khanday, Shoaib Ahmad Bhat and Bilal Ahmad Zaboo,” he said.
 
He said the youth were motivated and indoctrinated by the militant associates and militants to join militancy. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the misguided youth were motivated by the Pakistan based self style militant commanders to join militancy,” he said.
