Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, which met here on Friday, chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu decided to approve recommendations of Justice Manjunath Commission, providing five per cent reservations to the Kapu community people.
Talking to the media at the Secretariat here on Friday Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the Manjunath commission recommended the government to provide five per cent reservations to Kapus, and its sub-castes Thelaga, Balija and Ontari in the BC list under BC(F) schedule. The state Cabinet decided to table the recommendations in the Assembly on December 2 and pass a resolution. The resolution, passed by the Assembly, would be sent to the Centre, he said.
The Cabinet would meet again tomorrow morning at 8:30 and discuss the Kapu reservation issue more thoroughly and approve it formally. The minister explained that the BC are being provided reservations under A, B, C and D category. The Kapus would be provided reservation under BC (F) scheduled. The minister assured the BCs that the five per cent reservations to Kapus under BC (F) scheduled would not affect the benefits of BCs.
The minister said “today is a festival day for Kapu community people. The Cabinet decision would be tabled in the Assembly tomorrow for approval and then send it to the Centre to complete the process" he announced. The AP Cabinet took another crucial decision today approving to include the Valmiki and Boya Tribal castes into the ST list.
The AP cabinet also approved the construction of 960 MW hydro power project at the Polavaram project, across the river Godavari. The Cabinet decided to give green signal to the state owned APS RTC to take Rs.1000 crore loan for which the state government would give surety. The AP Cabinet also approved the 2017-20 State’s IT policy.(UNI)
