Jammu: A day after flag meet, the neighbouring Pakistan was yet again exposed for its nefarious designs as alert BSF troops foiled an infiltration bid and detected a 14 feet long tunnel close to the fence along international border in Arnia sector of Jammu. ‘’The nefarious designs of Pakistan Rangers was yet again foiled by alert troops of BSF in Arnia Sector which has faced heavy cross border firing and shelling from Pakistan from September 13 to 17,’’ Ram Awtar, Inspector General BSF, Jammu Frontier told reporters here on Saturday evening.
He said that on Sept 30, just after a day when Pak Rangers held a Sector Commander level meeting with BSF in their area opposite BOP Octroi on International Border, to resolve issue of Cross Border Firing and various issues pertaining to border management amicably, alert troops of 62 Bn BSF have detected a uncompleted tunnel in Arnia sector.
The BSF officer said that regular inputs regarding movement of Anti-National Elements across the border and suspected militant activities in festive season to inflict a blow on peace and tranquillity in Jammu region, have kept, BSF the sentinel of Indian Borders on highest alert. ‘’To clear the area ahead of fence for any nefarious design search of complete area ahead of fence was being carried out all along International Border,’’ he added and said that while carrying out search in area ahead of Fence this morning, BSF party observed suspicious movement of around 10-12 armed Pak nationals on the bank of Dhamala nulla in Pak side. ‘’BSF party taking all risk in thick jungle area having number of blind mortar bombs fired from Pakistan reached close to the area to know the nefarious design,’’ he added and said that on observing strong BSF party close by, Pak nationals ran away from the spot leaving their huge stores.
Suspecting the activity, BSF launched detail search in area and found an unfinished tunnel of around 12-14 feet length, approximately 3 feet height and 2.5 feet width on the slop of bank of Indian side of Dhamalla nulla ahead of BS Fence. This is the second tunnel in 2017 as earlier a tunnel was detected on Feb 13, 2017 in Ramgarh Sector, he added. He said that the digging tools, fresh dug earth and length of tunnel indicates that the tunnelling has started very recently in 2-3 days back, with an intent to infiltrate strong group of terrorists. ‘’Once again the intent of Pak Rangers to push in ANEs has been exposed. The alertness of BSF and foiling of at least four tunnelling activities on IB in period of last one year, effective retaliation of cross border firing speaks alertness, commitments and professionalism of BSF in guarding and management of Borders,’’ said Mr Awtar.
However, on search of area the recovery from nearby the site of tunnel included two AK 47 Magazines, one Hand Grenade, 60 7.62 ammunition, one magazine pouch, 13 Duracell, nine Pencil cells, three Head lamps used for digging, one US made Compass, three Haver Sac, three Jungle hats, four sleeping bags, four waterproof rain coat, three shawls, one Gas Cylinder Stove, six Digging tools, six Wooden Planks, two kg apple, five Poly bag with homemade eatables, one Chicken Spread packet, three packet mixture, six chapattis, one big size Poly Sheet White, one rope, one measuring tape, two full plates, 5 litre curry in plastic container, one T- Shirt, four pair sports shoes and a Knife.
On February 15, 2017, the Border Security Force detected a cross-border tunnel on the International Border (IB) in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district, foiling a possible infiltration bid. It was second tunnel detected in the area in three months, and the fifth in the region since 2012. On February 13, 2017, a cross-border tunnel with a diameter of 2.5 ft into 2.5 ft 20 m uncovered in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district On November 29, 2016, a tunnel detected in the same Ramgarh area through which three militants infiltrated and they were eliminated on the same day On March 1, 2016, a 30-metre trans-border tunnel found in the RS Pura sector of Jammu district.
It had a diameter of nearly 3 feet On August 23, 2014, a trans-border tunnel uncovered in the Pallanwala sector of Jammu district. It caved in due to rains after running 50 m inside the Indian territory On July 27, 2012, a540-m trans-border tunnel discovered near the Chalyari border outpost in Samba district. (UNI)
