New Delhi: It is a neck and neck race between Surender Kumar of the Congress and Ram Chandra of AAP with the former leading over his AAP rival by 130 votes at end of the 11th round of counting for by-election held in Bawana Assembly constituency. At the end of the 11th round of counting, Congress' Surender Kumar has a slender lead of 130 votes over his AAP rival. The Congress has secured 20914 votes while AAP was a close second with 20785 and BJP in third position with 15346 votes.

After being relegated to third position in early rounds of counting, the AAP candidate had surged ahead of the Congress candidate in the 8th round, securing a lead of 339 votes. However in the tenth and 11th round, Congress candidate managed to regain his lead. The voting to the by-election for Bawana Assembly constituency had recorded 45 per cent of voter turnout on August 23. (UNI)

In 2015 Assembly election, it had recorded 61.83 voter turnout. The by-election was necessitated following AAP MLA Ved Prakash's resignation. The BJP fielded former AAP legislator Ved Prakash, who had switched over to the party during the MCD polls, the ruling AAP fielded Ram Chandra, a veteran party worker and social activist and Congress three time former MLA Surender Kumar. A win for the Congress will enable it to make its debut in the state assembly while a win for AAP will mark a resurgence of the party after its poor show in The Punjab and Goa assembly polls and MCD elections.
