Lucknow:A dreaded criminal allegedly involved in the killing of another gangster Ajit Singh, was killed in a police encounter here early Monday.
Lucknow Police Commissioner D K Thakur, who led the team, confirmed the death of shooter Girdhari, alias doctor, alias Kanihiya, in the encounter in Vibhitukhand police station after he snatched a service pistol from a police officer and fled from the police custody.
During the encounter, which took place between 0230 hrs and 0300 hrs, Sub Inspector Akhtar Sayeed Usmani and senior Sub Inspector Anil Kumar Singh, were injured while a bullet shot by the criminal hit the bullet proof jacket of Inspector Chandrashekher.
Girdhari was arrested from Delhi and was under police remand. During the remand, Girdhari had admitted to his role in the killing of Ajit Singh in Lucknow last month.
According to the sources, police was taking Girdhari on a vehicle when suddenly he jumped out of the vehicle after snatching a pistol from the security personnel near Khargapur railway crossing.
Immediately police surrounded him and shot him dead. The criminal also fired several rounds on the policemen.Mafia Ajit Singh was killed on January 6 and Girdhari was arrested from Delhi along with an illegal firearm.(UNI)
