Srinagar: A youth, who was injured in a mysterious firing in central Kashmir's Budgam district on Friday evening, died in the hospital late last night.
Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said Ishfaq Ahmad Ganie was allegedly killed by the Army and demanded an inquiry.

Defence ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said Ishfaq was killed by unidentified militants about 50 meters away from the Army camp at Chhatteergam in Budgam who later managed to escape, while locals alleged that sentry of the camp fired upon Ganie who was on motorcycle.

However, police confirmed Ganie was injured in a firing incident without sharing details.
Ganie, a carpenter by profession, was critically wounded when he received several bullet wounds near Army camp when he was on way to his home at Magranpora last evening. He was rushed to local hospital from where he was shifted to SMHS hospital where he died.

Col Kalia in a statement  said Ganie, a resident of Magraypora was shot at by militants 500 to 600 metres away from Army camp at Chhatergam in Budgam on Friday evening. He said when the troops heard sounds of firing, the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) immediately rushed towards the directions of the fire to find out what was happening.

He said when the party reached the spot, they saw Ishfaq in a pool of blood. He had bullet injuries, one in head and the other in leg and was immediately taken to Chhatargam hospital  from where doctors shifted him to SMHS.

The reports of individual lobbing the grenade on Army Camp and Army retaliation are completely baseless, Col Kalia said.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president  Mehbooba Mufti has expressed deep shock and anguish over the killing of Ganie, allegedly by an Army unit at Chattergam, Magraypora in Budgam district last evening.

In a statement, Mehbooba Mufti asked the Governor administration to strictly ensure that security agencies are made accountable on protecting civilians and avoiding collateral damage during operation.

The PDP president also demanded an inquiry into   the incident. She also sought compensation to the kin of the slain youth.
