, Wednesday, 11 December 2019 (15:59 IST)
Gandhinagar:The Gujarat government on Wednesday tabled in the state Assembly the second and final part of the inquiry report of Godhra train fire and  subsequent riots that saw over 1,000 people dead in  2002, giving a clean chit to the then Chief Minister and incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his then home minister Haren Pandya and two other members of his cabinet.
The report has also categorically said that the Gujarat riots were not 'organised'.It has rejected the allegations leveled by three former Indian Police Service officers R B Sreekumar, Rahul Sharma and Sanjiv Bhatt (who was later dismissed and is currently lodged in jail in connection with a custodial death case and a drug related case) on the then state government regarding its lax attitude against the rioters.

The report has concluded that even though the action of police at some places during the riots was not up to mark yet the violence was not organised.  It has also given a clean chit to the other two erstwhile ministers Bharat Barot and Ashok Bhatt against whom allegations regarding inciting the rioters and assisting them were leveled.(UNI)
