No heatwave in Delhi for next 5 days, mercury plunges to 42 degrees

New Delhi: Delhi is likely to witness clear skies as the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 42 degrees Celsius on Thursday, according to the forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The minimum temperature on Thursday morning was recorded at 27.5, one notch above normal, whereas the relative humidity at 0830 hours was 56 per cent.

The weather agency said, there is no heatwave in the national capital and its adjoining areas till May 25, due to western disturbance and the maximum temperature could range between 40 to 43 degree celsius.

While the possibility of thunder and lightning, and a dust storm or thunderstorm are on the forecast for Friday and Saturday, Sunday, the city could witness cloudy skies and light rainfall, the forecast indicates.

On 24 May, the maximum temperature could dip to 39 degree Celsius, as per IMD.

Meanwhile, the parts of Delhi had recorded some rainfall in the early hours of Wednesday. The weather observatory at Aya Nagar recorded 5.1 mm of rainfall, while the weather station at Jafarpur recorded 001.0 rainfall between 0830 hours to 1730 hours.

The air quality index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded in the poor (201) category around 1100 hours, data from CPCB showed. (UNI)
