Ockhi cyclone: Several leaders cancel rallies in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: As the cyclone Ockhi came closer to the southern coast near Surat in Gujarat and is expected to make a landfall in the state around midnight, several leaders, including BJP Chief Amit Shah and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, have cancelled their scores of rallies in the state for the forthcoming Assembly elections.


Besides, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje have also called off their public gatherings. Mr Gandhi had to address four rallies in the state, but he addressed only one in Anjar and cancelled the remaining rallies.Mr Shah was also not able to address any of his three rallies after report of cyclone coming near to Surat. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to all the party workers to extend humanitarian support to the needy in the wake of Ockhi reaching Gujarat.
