PM Modi security breach: SC panel holds ex-Ferozepur SSP responsible; Anurag Thakur says “clear case of conspiracy”

New Delhi: The Supreme Court read a report filed by a five-member committee headed by a retired top court judge, Justice Indu Malhotra, that Ferozepur SSP failed to discharge his duty to maintain law and order during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Punjab visit.

In January this year, PM Modi's convoy was stuck on a flyover in Punjab for nearly 20 minutes because of a protest by the farmers.

The cavalcade was stuck and private cars were seen approaching, which was a major security breach. PM Modi returned to the airport in Bathinda due to the security breach.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur said the Supreme Court's report over the breach of PM Modi's security is a strong 'indictment' of then Congress Government in Punjab.

He further alleged that it was a clear case of "conspiracy".

"When the PM was on Punjab's visit, the CM of Punjab and DGP were missing. This is a clear indication of a conspiracy. The then Congress CM was acting at the behest of his party leaders," he said while addressing a press conference here at the party headquarters.

He added that the SC panel has commented that the Ferozpur SSP failed to discharge his duty and maintain law and order. The police had ample time to provide an alternate route to the PM's convoy, he further said.

"Who was behind all of this and why there is a huge breach of security lapses in the security of PM Modi. Congress must answer all of these questions," he demanded.

Thakur said the agitators were merely 100 metres away from the bridge on which PM's vehicle halted and the Pakistan border is just 10 km away. "The Punjab police remained a mute spectator at that juncture," he said. (UNI inputs)
