Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya go to polls in Feb

New Delhi: The elections scheduled to the state legislatures in three northeastern states were announced on Thursday.Making the announcement, Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti told reporters here that the polling for 60-member Tripura Assembly will be held on February 18.The elections to the State Assemblies in Nagaland and Meghalaya will be held on February 27, he said. The counting of votes for all the three states would be taken up on March 3. 

Fierce electoral contests are on cards in all the three states. The CPI-M Government in Tripura is in power for last two decades while Congress is in power in Meghalaya.The regional party NPF led coalition regime is in power in Nagaland.The EC also announced that the model code of conduct would come into force with immediate effect in all the three states. The code of conduct would also apply to the Centre with regard to any policy announcement for these three states, Mr Joti said. (UNI)
