104 out of 282 sitting MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves in Bengal

Kolkata: Altogether 104 out of 282 sitting MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves, according to a report released by the state chapter of Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) on Wednesday.

Out of 282 sitting MLAs analysed, 104(37%) MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves.

There are 90(32%) MLAs have declared serious criminal cases.

At least 7 MLAs have declared cases related to murder (IPC section 302).

There are 24 MLA has declared cases related to attempt to murder (IPC section 307).

At least 10 MLAs have declared cases related to crimes against women (IPC Section-354).

There are 68(33%) out of 205 MLAs from AITC, 20(51%) out of 39 MLAs from INC, 11(46%) out of 24 MLAs from CPI(M), 3(50%) out of 6 MLAs from BJP and 1(100%) out of 1 each MLAs from CPI and Independent have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

Sixty One (30%) out of 205 MLAs from AITC, 15(39%) out of 39 MLAs from INC, 10(42%) out of 24 MLAs from CPI(M), 3(50%) out of 6 MLAs from BJP and 1(100%) out of 1 MLA from Independent have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

There are 92 (33%) MLAs have declared their educational qualifications to be between 8th pass and 12th pass while 187 (66%) MLAs have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above. 2 MLAs are diploma holders and 1 MLA is just literate.

MLAs have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 185 (66%) MLAs have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years and 1 MLA has declared his age as 91 years.

Out of 282 MLAs analysed, 41 (15%) MLAs are women. (UNI)
