Agartala: Trinamool Congress leader of Tripura Subal Bhowmik injured along with three others in front of Khowai district court on Sunday and at least three vehicles of the party leaders were destroyed alleged by BJP cadres while TMC national general secretary and Loksabha MP Abhisekh Banerjee and Rajyasabha MP Dola Sen were attacked in front of Khowai police station allegedly by BJP cadres.

Bhowmik was going to court as their lawyer moved a bail petition to release its 12 leaders who have been detained the whole Saturday night in the police station and arrested in the morning for violating Covid curfew and booked under various provisions of Epidemic Disease Act and Disaster Management Act.

Facing an attack on National Highway at Ambassa in Dhalai district on Saturday evening, police stopped the vehicles of TMC leaders led by party Spokesperson Debangshu Bhattacharya, Sudip Raha and Zoya Datta in Teliamura and detained them at Khowai police station.

Allegedly, police didn’t provide the basic minimum amenities last night and their mobile phones were also taken away.

A large number of Trinamool workers had sit-in demonstrations outside the police station for the whole night demanding their release and arrest of the culprits who attacked them in Ambassa, ransacked TMC office in Dharmanagar of North Tripura in presence of Chief Minister and the people involved showing black flag to Abhisekh Banerjee during his first visit to the state on Aug 2 but police didn’t pay any heed to it, TMC sources said.

With the series of attacks on TMC leaders and workers, Abhisekh Banerjee along with Bratya Basu, Dola Sen and Kunal Ghosh arrived here on Sunday and rushed to Khowai where hundreds of BJP workers have shown black flag to them raising the ‘Go Back’ slogan in front of Khowai police station and allegedly abused them.

Abhishekh Banerjee along with his team met Additional SP Rajib Sengupta in the police station demanding the arrest of BJP workers outside who assembled violating Covid protocol and without face cover and abused the member of parliament under the same provisions by which police had arrested 12 TMC leaders in the morning. But police expressed their unwillingness to arrest the BJP cadres and disperse them and allegedly, police officers became rude to Abhisekh and Dola Sen inside the police station.

The TMC workers including the leaders have sat in the demonstration in the police station seeking action against the BJP cadres who assaulted TMC leaders on Saturday and Sunday and abused the MP showing the black flag.

Talking to the media Abhisekh Banerjee said, “Biplab Deb becomes nervous after seeing the public support of TMC and that’s why he mobilised BJP cadres and police against TMC leaders. He (CM) might not know if TMC wants to dislodge his government.”

“TMC will demonstrate outside the Parliament on Monday against the atrocities of BJP and police on their workers and BJP’s misrule in Tripura. We shall move a motion of breach of privilege against Additional SP (Khowai), SDPO (Khowai) and Officer in charge of Khowai police station for misbehaving with the MPs taking the side of BJP goons. We shall not leave it like this and teach them a lesson,” said Dola Sen, TMC MP in Rajyasabha.

She also stated that TMC will intensify its movement against the atrocities and misrule of the BJP in Tripura. (UNI)
