Chennai: A Chimpanzee has given birth to a baby chimpanzee at Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP), popularly called as Vandalur Zoo.
A release from the office of AAZP Deputy Director here today said the Chimpanzee Gowri (Susie) has given birth to a baby chimpanzee on June nine morning.
The mother and the baby chimpanzee are healthy and are under continuous monitoring of the veterinary team.
The AAZP received a pair of chimpanzees from the Singapore Zoo on October one, 2005.
The two chimpanzees--Gombe aged 28 and Gowri (Susie) aged 23--are one of the most attractive precious wild animals of Vandalur Zoo.
Chimpanzees are endangered species which is endemic to the African continent, the release said. (UNI)
