WATCH- Muslims join Hindus to protest demolition of 250-yr-old temple in Agra’s Raja Ki Mandi railway station

Agra: Members of the Muslim community on Friday protested against the demolition of a 250 year old Chamunda Devi temple built on the main platform of Raja Ki Mandi railway station here in Uttar Pradesh.

Informed sources said that Hindu organisations were protesting against the removal of the temple from the railway station.

On Friday, led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shabana Khandelwal, some Muslims also reached the temple and extended support to the priest. The Muslims made it clear that they will not allow the bulldozer to raze the temple and if required they will fall on its path.

On April 10, the Agra Railway Division pasted a notice that the temple on platform 1 of Raja Ki Mandi railway station should be removed, failing which it will be removed by the railways.

The railway authorities claimed that there was little space left on the platform due to the temple and problems were cropping up during operation of trains.

The Manager of the Agra Rail Division, Anand Swaroop, tweeted on April 25 that if the temple was not removed, then the Raja Ki Mandi railway station would be shut down.

The railways and the local administration are making to efforts to find a midway. (UNI)
