Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday eulogized the Uttar Pradesh government for efficiently handling the second Covid wave.

"The manner in which Uttar Pradesh government contained the spread of COVID-19 infection during the second wave was 'unprecedented'," the Prime Minister averred while laying the foundation for multiple development projects here.

He said that UP, including Kashi, faced such the Covid crisis with an exceptional courage.

In an apparent reference to the previous dispensations, Mr Modi said earlier even small problems used to become big due to the lack of health facilities in the state. "Therefore, the efforts of Yogi Adityanth-led government in dealing with Corona are commendable," he said.

The state has recorded 77 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours.

Mr Modi further said that currently UP government is conducting the maximum number of Covid tests in the entire country and simultaneously vaccinating its population. "The government is providing free vaccines to the poor, middle class, farmers and youth," he said.

UP has so far inoculated 3,88,37,852 people, of which, 2,67,893 were vaccinated on Wednesday. (UNI)
