Srinagar: Two top commanders of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in a swift and brief encounter with Jammu and Kashmir police in Srinagar on Monday evening.
Describing the operation as a very big success, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, K Vijay Kumar said both the LeT militants were involved in several civilian killings and other incidents.
Giving details about the operation, Mr Kumar said specific information was received about two LeT Commander Abbas Sheikh and his Second-in-Command Saqib Manoor Dar present in Alochi Bagh area in Srinagar uptown.
Talking to reporters at the site of the encounter, he said, ten police personnel have been rushed to the area. However, when the police personnel asked them to surrender, militants opened fire, Mr Kumar said adding the fire was returned ensuing in an encounter. Both the most wanted LeT militants were killed, he said.
He said though both the militants were affiliated to Lashkar, Saqib was declaring himself as chief of TRF. These militants were killed in several civilian killings, including in Srinagar, he said adding they were also involved in other violent incidents. (UNI)
