Chennai: A young girl medical aspirant allegedly ended her life on Tuesday after sitting for NEET exams two days back fearing that she might not clear the exams at Santhampadi village near Jayankondam in Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu.

Police said the 18-year-gold Kanimozhi, who had told her parents after sitting for the NEET exam on Sunday that the questions were tough, was found dead at her residence on Tuesday morning.

Her parents said Kanimozhi, who had scored high marks in Tenth state board exams, had taken the extreme step fearing that she might not clear the exam. Though no suicide note was recovered, police suspect it as a case of suicide.

Her body was shifted to Ariyalur government hospital for post mortem.

This was second suicidal death in Tamil Nadu in the last three days due to NEET.

On Sunday, hours before the exam was to commence, medical aspirant Dhanush, fearing that he could not clear the exams in his third attempt, committed suicide by hanging at his house in Mettur in Salem district of Tamil Nadu.

In 2017, S.Anitha of Kuzhumur village in Ariyalur, who had impleaded herself in a Supreme Court case challenging NEET, had ended her life, creating a uproar in the state, with political parties demanding that Tamil Nadu should be exempted from NEET and that the centre should scrap the exams.

The suicide of Kanimozhi, comes a day after the Tamil Nadu Assembly passed a Bill seeking to permanently exempt the state from the purview of NEET. (UNI)
