New Delhi: Batting great Sunil Gavaskar advised Team India Test captain Virat Kohli to take valuable tips from Sachin Tendulkar who got over the problem getting out fishing balls outside the off-stump in the 2003-04 Australia tour.
"It would be fantastic if he calls Sachin to wish him a happy new year. And he can, maybe just check with him how he curbed his offside shots in 2003-04 against Australia," Gavaskar said.
"He was getting out caught in the covers or caught behind, and then in that fourth Test match, he decided he’s not going to play in the covers. He was only playing maybe mid-off or straighter and on the on the side, and what did he end up with?
"241 not out in the first innings and 60-something not out in the second innings. Maybe just picking him brains, asking him how he did it, might help him as well," Gavaskar said in a post-match show on Star Sports.
Gavaskar shared his views when Virat's inability to regain his magic touch with the bat became a major talking points after he was dismissed for 35 and 18 runs in the two innings in South Africa, fishing the ball outside the off-stump. (UNI)
