In a shocking incident from Bengaluru, a dog caretaker has been accused of brutally killing her employer’s pet chihuahua, named Goofy, inside an apartment lift in the Bagaluru area.
The horrific act was captured on CCTV, prompting police to register an FIR under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to the intentional harming or killing of animals.
According to reports, Pushpalatha (43) had been employed for about one and a half months to help with household chores and take care of the pets. She was being paid Rs 23,000 per month. Following the incident, she has gone absconding, and police have launched a manhunt to locate her.
The pet’s owner, Rashi Poojari, discovered the shocking act through CCTV footage and immediately filed a complaint with the police. In her statement, she also accused the maid of theft, alleging that valuables such as a gold chain and diamond-gold rings were missing from her home.
A video clip of the incident has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread public outrage.
On October 31, Pushpalatha took ‘Goofy and the other dog for a walk. When she was in the lift, Goofy looked at her and barked. In the footage, Pushpalatha can be seen violently throwing the small puppy inside the lift, which led to its death.
Police officials said they are conducting a thorough investigation into both the animal cruelty and theft allegations, while appeals for stronger animal protection laws have intensified following the incident.
