A shocking case of road rage has emerged from Bengaluru, where a 23-year-old software engineer allegedly ran his car over a family of three on a scooter after getting enraged over honking.

The CCTV footage, which has since gone viral, shows the car driver deliberately ramming into the two-wheeler near Ramaiah Hospital bus stand on BEL Road on October 26, before fleeing the scene.

According to reports, the accused, Sukruth Gowda, a resident of Kodigehalli, works with a private firm in Whitefield. The victims — Ankita Patel (31), her husband Vineth A (33), and their minor son — were travelling towards the Sadashivanagar Police Station junction when a red Tata Curve speeding from behind hit their scooter. The impact threw all three off the vehicle, leaving Ankita and Vineth injured. Bystanders rushed them to M S Ramaiah Hospital, where they were treated and later discharged. Vineth, however, had to be readmitted to St John’s Hospital due to persistent pain. Their son sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalisation.

Initially, a case was registered against an unidentified driver for rash and negligent driving on October 28. However, after reviewing the CCTV footage, police added attempt to murder charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and transferred the case to Sadashivanagar Police Station, the police official said.

The next day, police apprehended Sukruth Gowda near Balaji Layout. The car used in the incident has been seized, and Gowda has been remanded to judicial custody, officials confirmed.
