A six-year-old boy sustained severe injuries, including the loss of his right ear, after a neighbour’s pet pitbull mauled him in northwest Delhi’s Prem Nagar on Sunday evening.
CCTV footage shows the child chasing a ball outside his home when the dog suddenly broke free and lunged at him, biting his ear off and inflicting deep wounds.
Neighbours helped rescue the boy from the dog’s grip before he was taken to BSA Hospital in Rohini. He was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police have registered a case under Sections 291 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for negligent handling of a dangerous animal. The dog’s owner, Rajesh Pal, has been arrested.
According to police, a distress call reached the Prem Nagar police station at 5:38 pm, reporting that the injured child had been rushed to the hospital by his parents.
The preliminary probe revealed that the pitbull was brought home nearly 18 months ago by Rajesh Pal’s son, Sachin Pal, who is presently lodged in jail in an attempted murder case.
Police have collected the child’s medical records and recorded the statement of his father, Dinesh, a factory worker in Kirti Nagar.
