Hindu man assaulted for giving lift to Muslim female colleague, 2 Muslim youths arrested

Bengaluru: The city police have arrested two Muslim youth for assaulting a person for giving a drop to a Muslim woman on his motorbike.

The Suddaguntapalya police arrested the Muslim youth after they took cognisance of a video that had gone viral on social media, DCP East Shrinath Joshi said.

"The Suddaguntapalya formed a team under the leadership of Inspector Nataraj and arrested the culprits. Police swung into action based on the video," he said.

In connection with the case of assault on a bike rider travelling alongwith a woman of different faith,@BlrCityPolice has acted swiftly, identified & secured 2 accused persons. A case is registered & legal action is initiated. My Govt. deals with such incidents with an iron hand.

The incident took place Friday night near Dairy Circle on Bannerghatta road. Both the victims are working in a private bank and were returning home after duty.

The video depicts the accused stopping the motorbike on seeing a burqa-clad woman as pillion rider. After stopping the two-wheeler, one of the youth questions the woman why is she traveling with a non-Muslim.

They then abuse and threaten the victims. One of them even calls up the woman's husband and questions why he allowed his wife to travel with a non-Muslim.

Intermittently, the youth assaults the person riding the bike.

Later, they force the woman to alight from the two-wheeler and hire an autorickshaw to her residence.
