A tragic incident has been reported from Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where a 28-year-old man died by suicide after being relentlessly harassed over a viral video showing him and a friend urinating in public.

Police said the man jumped into a well in Thokmal Tanda, Jalna, unable to cope with the humiliation and threats that followed the incident.

The video, which showed the two friends urinating near a signboard reading “Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar” at a railway station, quickly went viral on social media. Though both men later issued a public apology, the victim allegedly continued to receive abusive messages, threatening phone calls, and sustained online trolling.

According to officials, several local social media pages — including one reportedly run by a local Shiv Sena district chief — circulated the video, worsening the public backlash. “Fed up with the harassment, the man told his friends he couldn’t handle it anymore and took his life,” a police officer said.

An FIR has been registered against those accused of sharing the video and instigating the harassment that allegedly led to the man’s death. Police are investigating the matter further.
