Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised US President Donald Trump for his alleged role in preventing a potential nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan, calling him “a man of peace” and “a genuine candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.”

Speaking at the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Sharif endorsed Trump’s earlier claims of mediating peace between the two South Asian rivals. “President Trump has prevented a possible nuclear war between India and Pakistan,” he declared, crediting Trump’s diplomatic efforts for saving millions of lives.

The moment unfolded unexpectedly when Trump, during his address to world leaders gathered to discuss Gaza’s post-war future, invited Sharif to share his thoughts. Taking the podium, Sharif spoke for nearly five minutes, lauding Trump’s “relentless pursuit of peace” and his “tireless work to make the world safer and more prosperous.”

“Today is one of the greatest days in contemporary history, because peace has been achieved after untiring efforts. Efforts led by President Trump, who is genuinely a man of peace who had relentlessly and untiringly worked throughout these months, day in and day out, to make this world a place to live in peace and prosperity,” Sharif said.

Reiterating his admiration, Sharif added, “Again, I would like to nominate this great president for the Nobel Peace Prize, because I genuinely feel he is the most genuine and most wonderful candidate for the peace prize because he has brought not only peace in South Asia — saved millions of people, their lives — and today, achieving peace in Gaza and saving, millions of lives in the Middle East.”

Sharif went on to emphasize that Trump’s intervention was crucial during tense days between India and Pakistan earlier this year. “Had it not been for this gentleman, who knows, India and Pakistan are both nuclear powers, had he not intervened with his wonderful team during those four days, the war could’ve escalated to a level and who would’ve lived to tell what happened,” he said.

Trump had on multiple occasions claimed that his mediation led to a “full and immediate” ceasefire between India and Pakistan after what he described as “a long night of talks” with both sides.

However, India has maintained that the agreement on cessation of hostilities was achieved through direct discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, without third-party involvement.
